The Tweak Show (interactive exhibition)

The Tweak Show
playground for beginner gods

De Spullenmannen is a collective of artists that makes theatre, installations, visual art and purposeless contraptions. The group shares a passion for old objects. Their latest project is the “Tweak Show”.

Curiosity is a driving force for both artists and scientists. And the best way to satisfy this curiosity is to carry out an experiment. The “Tweak Show” is a touring exhibition that bridges the gap between art and science. It shows the miracle that surrounds us, but often remains unseen.

Experimental science, theatre and visual art blend in a labyrinth filled with interactive installations. Old machines have been converted into instruments that can be used to unravel the laws of nature. The visitor makes his own personal journey through this labyrinth and thus, through science and art. However, he will not be on his own. A mysterious character pops up occasionally, telling the visitor that he has been chosen and that he will have to accomplish various tasks in order to reach the exit. Whispering voices and flickering TV screens will encourage the visitor on his way and challenge him to use the instruments. If he observes carefully on his journey, step by step the story of the strange man will be revealed. The visitor develops from an unwary spectator into the main actor in the story, whose choices determine what the world inside the labyrinth looks like. He finds himself creating a landscape out of sound without a single touch, and sees living pixels run out of his fingertips populating an artificial world. Along the way, additional installations connect the labyrinth's story to the real world outside.

The “Tweak Show” will open July 2008, after which it will start touring the Netherlands and abroad.
