THEATRE, INSTALLATIONS, VISUAL ART AND PURPOSELESS CONTRAPTIONS
Welcome at the Spullenmen. On this website you will find information about our company and all ongoing projects. Click here for an one-sheet overview.

Language Machine
The language machine makes words according to the rules of the language the user selects. On a big steel machine with lots of buttons, he user can type a description of something that does not have a word yet. With buttons and switches he can set what kind of word he wants to make, in what language, how long the new word should be and then the machine will make a custommade new word that's ready to use. Obituary Generator
Anything can happen between now and tomorrow. Even things you don't want to think of. By answering a few questions you can make your own obituary. The Obituary Generator calculates your possible course of life and shows what your obituary could look like. [more info]
The Esteem Machine
The Esteem Machine can be brought into action when the need for a decent applause is high. The operation instructions are simple: position oneself underneath the machine and press the big red button. An enthusiastic indiviual applause will be the result. [more info]
Brain Detector
With the Brain Detector the visitor can sneak a peek at what could be going on underneath his scull. He can put a water kettle on his head, with wires everywhere and a light bulb in the spout. [more info]

Frycycle
The frycycle is a bicycle driven frying pan. The machine was built out of a home trainer and has a frying pan attached to the handlebars. With a large mechanical construction, generators are connected to multiple bicycle wheels. When biking, the user stores energy into a battery. The amount stored can be read off the panel of instruments. As soon as enough energy is stored, a snack can be prepared. [more info]
Game of Life
A black table seems to glow magically. The visitor holds his hand above it and an incredible image appears; the contours of the hand appear on the table's surface and out of it crawl numerous white dots that move across the table in beautiful patterns, and live on for quite a while before they eventually die out. Everywhere where life proliferates it leaves behind traces of blue: pollution. The visitor presses his finger against the surface and sows food. A miniature ecosystem that lives by a simple mathematical rule, and shows beautiful images. [more info]
On a stove there is a big burnt pan. In a skyblue soup float tiny islands. When the visitor reaches for the pan, the islands come alive. A sound escapes the pan, a tone that changes its pitch depending on the proximity of the hand. The frequency of the sound influences the behaviour of the islands. They form sand banks, fjords and erupting vulcanoes. [more info]
The Amazing Pudding Machine
The Spullenmen were the very first to develop a fully automatic Pudding Machine. Featuring power tools like an electric drill and a grinding disc, it uses a lot of motoric force to prepare a delicious dessert. [more info]
